Javelin Masterclasses Loughborough 2017

Just back in Germany it’s time to reflect a very intense and positive weekend of coaching and presenting all about my experiences and passion of javelin throwing. On two
days more then 100 Athletes plus their coaches and families came to England to see, test and listen.

Speerwurf Coaching und Seminar durch Thomas Röhler Javelin presentation and javelin coaching

Mornings started with a one hour presentation, a bit feeling like a professor, speking to the crowd sittig at a Loughborough university lecture hall. I was happy to see many coaches and athletes taking notes when carefully listening to different issues that influence an elite athletes life.

In the following each the GB coaching team and me ran masterclasses and trial training sessions. I think there was lot’s to learn and to take home as well. So many athletes and coaches left the HighPerformanceCenter with a big smile. Some even went back with a brand new Nordic Javelin that were available for test throwing all the weekend.

Exciting insights

For me, the weekend was just as instructive in addition to countless wonderful human encounters and happy athletes. From the coaches I got interesting insights into the english coaching world. I realized that not all countries benefit from a clear coaching structure. Often I felt like a thread was going to help the extremely motivated team. But the structure and division of tasks in the local association makes it difficult to unify training goals and pull together. Especially with regard to the current sports debate in Germany and the Great Britain, which we described as ideal, I had to ponder something after the javelin seminar weekend.
